These are Singapore's 25-pounder artillery guns. Used in the 1940s as part of the island's defences, these guns have been retired to being ceremonial guns.
When the President reviews the Guard-of-Honour contingents, these 25-pounders are fired as a mark of highest respect. This is known as the 21-gun salute, a military tradition which dates back to the 14th century.
